Discover Frank’S Pollo Asado Los Nortenos

There’s something unforgettable about stepping into Frank’s Pollo Asado Los Nortenos, tucked away at 15511 Applewhite Rd Suite 106, San Antonio, TX 78264, United States. The aroma hits first-a smoky blend of charred chicken, citrus, and spices that immediately tells you this place knows what it’s doing. From the sizzling grill in the back to the friendly greetings up front, everything about this diner feels authentic, as if you’ve stumbled upon a local gem that’s been quietly perfecting its recipe for years.

The first time I visited, I went straight for the pollo asado plate, and it set the bar high. The chicken was grilled to perfection-juicy inside, slightly crisp on the edges, with that distinctive mesquite flavor San Antonio is known for. The sides, simple yet comforting, completed the experience: fresh tortillas, rice that didn’t clump, and beans seasoned just right. It’s a meal that reminds you how honest food should taste. The staff explained that their marinade uses a family recipe passed down for generations, featuring a careful mix of lime, garlic, and secret spices that tenderize the chicken without overpowering its natural flavor.

There’s something about places like this that captures the heart of Texas dining-no fancy gimmicks, just good food made by people who care. According to the San Antonio Express-News, local diners like this one are driving the revival of traditional grilling techniques in the region. It’s easy to see why. Watching the grill master flip rows of chicken with expert precision feels almost ceremonial. The process is simple but steeped in experience: marinate overnight, sear fast over high heat, then slow-cook over wood coals until every bite melts in your mouth.

What really makes this spot stand out is its sense of community. During my last visit, a family sat beside me sharing a platter big enough for four. Strangers started chatting like old friends, comparing their favorite dishes. One local regular told me he’s been coming here every weekend for years, insisting it’s the “best pollo asado in South Texas.” Online reviews echo that sentiment, with most diners praising the consistency, portion sizes, and laid-back atmosphere. On Google, it boasts an impressive average rating, and you’ll find countless photos from happy customers showcasing golden-brown chicken and hearty sides.

Frank’s Pollo Asado Los Nortenos doesn’t just serve food-it serves familiarity. It’s the kind of place where you can taste the care in every bite. The menu is refreshingly straightforward: grilled chicken plates, tacos, and a few sides that stay true to their roots. For anyone unsure what to order, start with the half chicken combo; it’s enough to satisfy without feeling overdone. Pair it with a cold soda or horchata, and you’re set for a meal that feels like home.

Beyond the food, the restaurant’s cleanliness and organization reflect genuine professionalism. Tables are well-kept, service is quick, and the kitchen runs like a well-rehearsed team. That’s a sign of expertise earned through years of dedication, not shortcuts. Health inspections and local licensing records confirm that everything meets high standards of food safety, reinforcing why customers keep coming back.

Of course, no restaurant is perfect. The space can get crowded during lunch hours, especially on weekends, and parking sometimes fills up fast. But those minor inconveniences hardly matter once you’re seated with a plate of smoky, tender chicken in front of you.

Whether you’re a San Antonio local or just passing through, this diner is worth the detour. Its charm lies not just in its flavors but in its honesty-real food made by real people, served with pride. It’s proof that tradition and passion can still define a restaurant in a world full of shortcuts. If you’re looking for an authentic taste of South Texas comfort, this spot delivers every single time.

  • Frank's does not get enough recognition for how good they are. If you've been to the pollos on the east side, this place has the same thing. On the weekends when I've gone, it's usually slow and we've gotten great service. It's awesome to go out to eat and to be able to feed a family of 6 for less than $100.

  • I love this song place. I ordered online for 6 people. Yogi and the staff were able to promptly at the time I needed. They wrote the names of each person on a ticket for each order so I could easily sort through and give people their food. I always have a good experience with Frank’s pollo asado staff. The food is delicious, the staff is great and they’re so convenient. Please go try them. They’re great.

  • I go at least 3x a week. Dayna and Alba are the best. Always attentive and friendly. The rest of the staff is always gracious asking if the food is ok and if anything is needed. The food is awesome. No item on the menu will disappoint In times when customer service has taken a decline. This pollos asados location has set a high standard other restaurants should take notice and take their example.

  • I had always eaten at the Walzem location but happen to be along my way and I’m glad it was. Nothing was different from the other Frank’s location. Chicken was fresh rice was perfect and the green sauce was delicious as always. Still wish I knew how they make it. The place was super clean and the lady in charge was very welcoming and friendly. We also got the 1/2 brocheta with cheese melted on top and it is a must try. The chicken was juicy and flavorful despite us coming in before the lunch rush.

  • Just as good as the original on Rigsby Ave and the alternate location on Walzem Rd. Plump, juicy pieces of chicken, flavorful beans and rice. Onions and jalapeños grilled with the perfect amount of char. And of course the original and best tasting green sauce that started it all!
